5 Player Policy Rule Modification - Florida Region
Due to the current situation with COVID, the Region has put together a special rule modification to address the shortage of players.
Attached is the official 5 Players Policy rule modification. This has been approved by the Florida Region for regional only indoor competitions. It will expire at the conclusion of the 21/22 indoor season.
We will re-evaluate if it is needed again for the 22/23 season.
This is for when a team has only 5 players. A point of clarification for everyone…teams can NEVER use a Libero while utilizing a “Ghost” position in their line-up.
Just one more point of clarification for everyone…teams can NEVER use a Libero while utilizing a “Ghost” position in their line-up.
So….if you have a team with six players ask you if they can make one of their regular starting positions a “Ghost” position so they can still use one of their six players as a Libero, the answer is “No, you can ONLY use a “Ghost” position if your team has been reduced to FIVE players.”
You can only use a Libero if you have a minimum of 7 players.
Another question that came up:
If the ghost is in center front and the ghost is opposite the setter, can the setter move all the way up to the net?
Yes, because Middle front COULD be all the way up at the net and even with the setter.

OFFICIALS LUNCH SUNDAY 11:30 to 1:30 pm Room 104AB
General COVID Safety Protocols
NEW! EVENT ATTENDANCE PROTOCOLS:
The decision was made by the tournament directors AJ and Jen Joseph to reinstate some of the Covid safety protocols for the tournament in Daytona on January 8-9. This is due to the tremendous increase in cases that Florida has experienced in the past week or so. As a result, all staff and officials at this event will be required to wear a mask at all times except when actively eating or drinking. This means that you must wear a mask when officiating the match, utilizing either an electronic hand whistle or using a regular whistle underneath the mask. The mask must be worn at all times indoors, even in the ref room. For those who are unwilling or unable to comply with these protocols, please turn the match back in ZebraWeb ASAP. We apologize for this inconvenience, but the safety of everyone at the tournament is important and the tournament directors felt that this change was needed at this time.
In other news, for this event we are back to having a lunch buffet for officials Saturday and Sunday in the referee room. I am sure most of you will join me in welcoming this change!.
Flags may be used by line judges. If anyone objects to using the flag, they will be permitted to signal without a flag. Make sure to wipe the flag handles down with the sanitizer between players.

There were many changes to the roster for this tournament. We are sorry if you didn't get your first choice for roommate. You may work out switches among yourselves once you arrive if ALL parties agree.
NOTE: Nicholas Chenard stays with other Chenards. Cristina Wilson - no hotel
It is recommended that you contact the hotel the afternoon you are scheduled to arrive to confirm that you are checking in. If you plan to arrive at the hotel after 9 pm you MUST contact the hotel to confirm your reservation and arrival time.
If you are assigned a room, you are expected to use it. If the nights listed are incorrect please let me know. If your plans change, please notify Sue Wainio immediately. [email protected]
Please note:You will most likely be asked to leave a credit card for incidentals. Either you or your roommate can do this, does not have to be both of you. Also, if you use a debit card, there may be a hold placed on funds for a period of time.
Record your roommate request in SportWrench. We will do our best to honor all requests. For best results, look at the list of officials assigned in ZebraWeb and then contact each other in advance. If Person A requests Person B, and Person B requests Person A, then you will most likely get the roommate you chose. To see the list of officials working, go to ZebraWeb>Reports>Gameskin to see all who are assigned to that tournament.
We understand that the current virus situation makes the tournament lodging situation more of a challenge than normal. We ask that you respect your roommate's preferences for space and mask usage, etc.
Hotel rooms are for working officials only.
